Clearing out today. One of my mum's pots from from the mid 1970's. A casserole dish, which would have had a lid - no doubt long gone.

For many years she was a potter, selling her work at shows. We spent ages travelling around London and surrounding areas visiting exhibitions and art fairs. My early introduction to that world I guess.

She had a freezing cold workshop at the side of the house which I didn't often venture into. I was given lessons in pot making, but it isn't as easy as it looks and I ended up wearing more clay than finishing anything. So I drifted into photography!

There are a few apple trees on or by Chiswick Bridge. Maybe from apple cores thrown from car windows, where the seeds germinated.

The front garden with its autumn colour beginning to show. The vibrancy of mid-May has gone, but some of the stalwarts have filled out.

It's been a tough summer, but nothing was watered. The stars have been the Mexican daisy (in frames 1,2 &3) and the Salvia (frame 3). I've seen Mexican daisies growing in profusion in the Thames river wall at Strand-on-the-Green and in the stonework on Richmond Bridge. Super tough.

The Oenothera lindheimeri (frame 6 ) has grown tall and overspills the fence into the street. Passers by surreptitiously pick this on their way home from work, but I guess there is enough to share!

The grasses have established now (Miscanthus sinensis 'Zebrinus' and Miscanthus sinensis 'Kleine silberspinne' (frame 4) and are beginning to make a good show this year.

One casualty was the Verbena bonariensis which is normally really tough. But it will start to come back next year.

Wandering along the River Brent today. Looks like an excellent autumn for wild fruit in the hedgerows. Haw berries by the bucketful and sloe.

There were some pink and white cyclamen in the woods too. Possibly guerilla planting, but lovely to see.

Polaroid transfers, c1998.

Transfers are made by peeling instant film and paper apart more or less immediately after exposure instead of waiting 3-4 minutes. And placing the film onto an art paper of some description. This then supports the emulsion.

I found that soaking the art paper in water first helped the transfer process to take place more effectively.

1, 3 & 4 This is Polaroid 5x4 film exposed in a film back with the aid of a darkroom enlarger. Expensive to do and highly erratic with the results, so I never made that many. The original car photos were shot on colour transparency.

2. Transfer using Fuji 100 instant film. This was actually better for normal use on shoots than Polaroid. More accurate colour and less susceptible to the effects of cold. It made better transfers too.

First time in years I’ve experimented with Polar

First time in years I’ve experimented with Polaroid film. Some of the current I-Type film available.

It doesn’t seem to have the same saturation and contrast as the original films available in the 1980’s. But with high res scans and a bit of tinkering there could be some interesting results to be had.

These were copied through their app which does work well.

Banyan trees, Cádiz and Seville.

These are works of art in themselves, each one being very different. Often seen as a symbol of life, growth and rebirth. Not sure of the connection with this region of Spain, or indeed the exact type, but they seem to grow well in city spaces.
