Continuing the route taken a few weeks ago, I kayaked from Park Royal to Little Venice today, as the conditions were good. I’ve cycled along this route every week over the last year, so it was nice to see everything at a slower pace. And I was rewarded with a Kingfisher sighting near Kensal Rise Cemetery. Just a blue flash, but I’ll take that as a definite! The canal does appear to be cleaner along this stretch, so there is obviously enough food to support it.

Rev Richard Coles, presenter on BBC Radio Four’s Saturday Live, once described the plastic bags suspended along the roadside on his drive home as looking like “Unfortunate wraiths snagged in trees”. Sadly a common feature along the River Thames. More ‘wildling’ trees along the Thames footpath near Mortlake. The corner of my mum’s plant hospital. Apparently I won the large cactus in the middle at a school summer fair when I was about 8 years old. It was ‘confiscated’ as I didn’t look after it. Monstera deliciosa or cheese plant. London Plane tree – high tide, overlooking Vauxhall Bridge.
Nice to see Tate Modern using one of my River Thames photos for an event poster. Called Ten Days Six Nights, the event is being held between 16th and 25th March and incorporates performance, film, music and sculpture. The original photograph was taken at Mortlake, towards Kew Rail Bridge.
From the archive – For What Car magazine, 1986. We borrowed the ‘new’ Renault Savanna from the Paris Motor Show as it closed on the first day and did night shots around the city with two other cars. Ended up doing this dawn shot as a last ditch effort to get a cover before returning the car to the show at 8am for the second day. A deadline dreamed up by someone still tucked up in bed!
